Where do I “Start”?

No Start button?! The biggest change to the Desktop in Windows 8 is that there is no Start button. In previous versions, the Start button was a very common place to go to launch apps, access settings, or search the computer. Although these features are now accessible from the Start screen, many people may find it disorienting to use Windows without the Start button.

But do not fear, there are solutions out there that will put the beloved Start button right back where you want it.

Although there are several options around the Internet that will work, I like to focus on the FREE stuff (although making a donation to the creators is always encouraged).

For this solution I will introduce you to Classic Shell (www.classicshell.net).  Classic Shell is a collection of usability enhancements for Windows. The main features are:

  • Highly customizable start menu with multiple styles and skins
  • Start button for Windows 7 and Windows 8
  • Toolbar and status bar for Windows Explorer
  • Caption and status bar for Internet Explorer

If you want to know more about Classic Shell you can visit their website.  If you don’t care about learning more and just want to get it downloaded… here ya go!

Enjoy!
